The Trading Spaces Revival

Image
As I sit here typing, I'm watching the Trading Spaces reunion show before the first new episode of the Trading Space revival after 10 years. Over the past few weeks, TLC has been playing some episodes from the yearly years. What I am trying to decide is if these rooms they redid 18 years ago were really nice for the time. I watched all the episodes back in the day, and I recall I liked some at the time. As I recall, at that time I wished I actually owned a house and had someone I could trade spaces with. As I watch today, I still wish I owned a house, but I would never sign up for the show.  First of all, I know what I like and can decorate my own house. Just give me the money, and I'll do it myself. My old duplex was probably inspired by Trading Spaces actually. I had purple stripes on the walls of my guest room. My living/dining room had faux marbled green walls that I still kind of miss.  I would love for the paneling on the walls that surround...

I may be too old for this

If you have been reading my blog for any period of time, you have heard me talk about how I don't get out of the house much. Well, that's mostly true lately except for the five Saturdays in a row I haven't been home. A few of those were selling crafts. I work and do crafts. That's what I do. I'm pretty predictable. Right down to what I do when I have a big night out of the house. I either go to watch the Texas Rangers play, which I did five weeks ago, or I go to a certain group's concert. Yes, I have seen New Kids on the Block four times in the past seven years at the American Airlines Center. That makes five times total, all with my friend, Jenny. The first time, in 1990, we were in junior high, and we have a pact to go with each other. One time someone else went with us (apart from when we had to be chaperoned), but we must not go apart from one another. Jenny was proudly bragging to everyone we spoke to last night that this was our fifth time. ...

May the new TV season come swiftly

Image
Tonight I have been contemplating how I really hope time flies, and we get to start the Fall TV season soon. Usually I can cope from TV series withdrawals by watching the Texas Rangers for the summer, they have been so absolutely horrible this season, I just can't do it. On a Thursday night in the summer -- which is normally my favorite TV night -- the pickings are slim. As I scroll through the channel guide, my choices include TLC's  Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and VH1's Dating Naked . I may watch a bunch of dumb reality crap, but I do draw the line somewhere. I do have my standards, and obviously my morals. Even if I do end up watching the train wreck that Bachelor in Paradise  will be. I don't plan to blog my way through it, but that could change. I "tried" to watch NBC's debut of  Welcome to Sweden . I give that show less than a month before it is cancelled. I found it that annoying. With all this horrid swill on TV, maybe that contributes to the fa...

So, you didn't miss anything on the Season Premiere of Sister Wives

I did invite people over to my house for the Sister Wives premiere last Sunday. Only one person came, but we had some good conversation time. The others didn't miss much and the show is sure to be of before a next season. That is my prediction. That's not to say that I won't be watching every episode until it goes off the air because I probably will. Robyn is poised to cry every time they talk to her. Every. Time. No one wants to buy Sister Wives jewelry. Big shock. I mean, because all of us have sister wives. Not. Janelle wants to know how they all expect to pay the bills. So do I.  So. Do. I. Christine still doesn't like Robyn. Kody is still the flakiest husband ever. Merry still doesn't know whether she wants another baby, even if Robyn carries it. If it's been a year since Robyn made the offer (because they celebrate Solomon's first birthday), I am pretty sure you don't want another baby. You're 42. You're only child is abo...

My friends are hooked on Breaking Amish

As all of you know, I'm a little obsessed at times with reality TV. I'd like to think that I am at least semi-well-read, but I do have to admit that much of what I know about some subjects I get from watching reality TV. I did watch a lot of Dateline interviews on NBC about polygamy before Sister Wives , I feel the need to say. At least that education came from news.  Jenny saw me post that I was going to watch Breaking Amish , so she called for a party. So, she and Rachel came over to watch with me on Sunday night. It wasn't much of a party to their disappointment, I'm sure, but it was 9:00 on a Sunday night after church. Jenny does feel that I introduce her to different cultures and ways of life through my choice of TV viewing. (And, she's already hooked on Breaking Amish , or so she says.) For the number of Amish authors that I now work with, I really should know more than I do about the Amish way of life. I couldn't answer all the questions she a...

A reality show unreality

Here's my train of thought today. If you've ever watched one show on TLC, you know how they love crossovers. 19 Kids and Counting on Say Yes to the Dress Cake Boss on Say Yes to the Dress What not to Wear on Say Yes to the Dress Jon and Kate Plus 8  (before it was minus Jon)   on  Say Yes to the Dress  (other than me, who hasn't said yes to a dress?) Say Yes to the Dress on What Not to Wear Say Yes to the Dress on Cake Boss Cake Boss on 19 Kids and Counting What Not to Wear on Cake Boss Cake Boss on New York Ink All American Muslim  on New York Ink (How have the Sister Wives not been on anything? They need to make an appearance on What Not to Wear. Have you seen how badly they all dress?) Even non-TLC shows join in... Dancing with the Stars on Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta One of the choreographers of So You Think You Can Dress even was told What Not to Wear.  But, you know what is really missing? 19 Kids and Counting ...

The world is full of crazy people

I know, I know... You are all saying, yes, Audra, we know. What brings you to this conclusion today? I watch, or listen, to way too much TV while on the computer at home. Last night while working away, I had TLC on. Not sure what was on at the time. Maybe it was Cake Boss . Why are there cake shows on at least three networks now? Not to mention cake competitions on at least two. Can no one have an original idea? I don't know about you, but I question eating any of those cakes as many days as they work on them and the fact that their hands have been all over them before and after the use of power tools. But, I digress. I'm not blogging about cake. Well, I am, but I'm not. As if Toddlers and Tiaras was not bad enough -- and now I have King of the Crown on for some reason, not to be confused with the show about the pageant dress designer, something about a dress (but not Say Yes to the Dress ) -- I have found a show that I really, really refuse to watch. I place it next to K...
