My take on Robert Whitlow's The Living Room

Image
Don't you hate it when one of your favorite authors comes out with a new book, then it doesn't live up to expectations?  I was looking forward to Robert Whitlow's latest, The Living Room (published by Thomas Nelson) as I have read all of his books. I'm not going to say I have loved every one (I still get steamed thinking about the ending of Jimmy ), but I've liked them or I wouldn't have read everything he's written. His last one, The Choice , was his best. Look up my review on that one . Like I always tell reviewers though, tell what you didn't like because what you didn't like might be what someone else would enjoy. Stick with me because I'm going to tell you why I wasn't fond of The Living Room because I think you'll actually be quite fascinated by it. About the book :  Amy Clarke’s dreams are coming true—and that’s the problem. Legal secretary by day, romance novelist by night, Amy Clarke lives with a precious secret. For ...

Maybe I'll be off the hook next time

It probably started off with the question, "have you read any good books lately?" More likely it was, "are you working on any good books?" It seems like the only question my Grandmother really asks me. At least anything that really has anything to do with me that doesn't end up being a gossipy kind of thing. There's another similar question about authors or anything neat or something. It's work related though. After 10 years, really, that's all you can focus on, what I'm working on? Do you ask anyone else about their job? It may sound innocent enough, but it seems to be more of a way of impressing her book club. If you actually know me, or have heard/read some of my stories below, you know why this is such an ordeal in my mind. Anyway. A few months ago, we did a blog tour for Robert Whitlow's The Choice . I actually had two copies of it because I had requested it from the publisher for review before I found out we were doing a blog to...

Click here to enter! If you've read my blog before, you've read a few reviews of books by Robert Whitlow. You've also heard me say before that I don't ask for a lot of books because I don't have time to commit to reviews on a schedule. And part of the books I read I don't post reviews of because I forget or get busy or whatever.  And you should also look at my office. I mean my library. And now I have a Kindle (as of this week!) and am quickly accumulating free books on it that I've gotten off of the Inspired Reads website. (Check out Inspired Reads and Vessel Project  for free e-books without "must review" strings.) Based on all our blog tours right now, you'll be getting plenty of posts on new books and CONTESTS in the next couple of weeks. There are a lot of new books hitting shelves if you are looking for some great recommendations. Here I am rambling on to say that I set a reminder on my computer to pop up on the morning Book S...

The great backlog of book reviews

Image
One thing that I will become better at in the coming days is posting about the books that I have read. I am way, way, way behind on posting on some of my reads. I begged the publisher and got an Advance Reader's Copy of this one, and the publication date was August 2, 2011. Audra's a bad blogger. That's why she doesn't ask for a lot of review copies. She recognizes that she would be getting posting reminders like the ones she sends out on a regular basis. With the changes that I am going to make in the coming weeks, being a better reviewer is going to be one of them.  Water's Edge By Robert Whitlow About the book: Sometimes small towns hold the biggest secrets. Ambitious young attorney Tom Crane is about to become a partner in a high-profile Atlanta law firm. But first he must clear one final matter from his docket—the closing of his deceased father's law practice in his hometown of Bethel, Georgia. Killed in a mysterious boating accident, John Cr...

Higher Hope by Robert Whitlow

Image
If I accomplished nothing else over the past few days, I did finish the book that I was reading. (Well, I did do a few scrapbook pages, but am never going to make it to Mt. Rushmore in the book at this rate.) The book up for review tonight... Robert Whitlow's Higher Hope . Having read all the authors previous books, including the first in this series, this book had been on my "want to read list for a while" and required me begging my mom to buy it for me. Actually, I really didn't have to beg. We have a bit of an arrangement . I supply her with books to read - either from work, from blog tours, or my own purchases - and every once in a while she has to buy me a book that I end up passing along to her to read. I don't totally control my mom's reading list, but I do have a good chunk of influence. Now that she just finished book three in a series that we both started at book three, I think I'll have a couple of other new books coming my way. I'll start...
