Since I only taught on Monday night at Westhill 's VBS, I took pictures the other nights for the Facebook Page . I also videoed one of the class/skit sessions every night. I do promise to get those uploaded to share.  These shots are from the craft room, the intro skits in the auditorium and the Job, Moses and Peter lessons.

Poor, mistreated Joseph

Image
This week is VBS at Westhill , and last night was my night to teach. Our theme was superheroes overcoming certain challenges, and my lessons centered on Joseph overcoming mistreatment. I usually don't have a big cast because depending on actors makes me nervous, but these guys did a great job. I only had 7 of Joseph's 11 brothers, but no one actually pointed that out. I kept talking about the 10 mean older brothers.  If I had my script together more than a week ahead - because I run behind on absolutely everything - I probably could have found a few more.  All the lessons were videoed, so I'm going to try to get them uploaded to share. I have to do it when I'm not trying to work because they will take FOREVER, and I can't function while videos are uploading.  Here's my cast with a kid hiding in middle for a picture. Keep scrolling for the picture of the brothers throwing Joseph into the well one more time, just for the fun of it. Between rehearsals ...

The Life of Peter

Image
This week, we had our VBS at Westhill Church of Christ. Our lessons focused on Peter and the theme "Cast Away". Each of our three nights, we had a different skit that acted out a story, followed by "Old Peter" giving a deeper application. There were three of us who each took a night to write and direct the main script. Mine was the second night. I know the audio is bad. I just had my phone and our lighting was dark. I hope you enjoy them anyway. And here is a little bonus... On my night, the "cast" came out and sang with the kids. Young Peter decided to lead everyone in the "Hippopotamus" song.

The first in a string of busy Saturdays

Image
Today was the first in a string of busy Saturdays. Including today, I have plans for the five Saturdays in a row. I'll be glad to sleep in some on that fifth one though. I had to break my 9 AM Saturday to be up at the church this morning for Ladies Day. I was in charge of controlling the video cameras for the DVD. I'm not really sure how it turned out, so I may be out of a job come next year. These are the girls who took part in leading songs and reading scripture. This year, the streak of going to Opening Days came to an end. Since 1999, I have been to the Texas Rangers home opener every year except 2002, the day I started a new job (I think I sent soon after) and in 2013 when we went down to Houston to watch the Rangers play the Astros for the first game of the year down there. I just refused to pay so much more than face value for tickets on Stub Hub, and didn't buy the smallest season ticket plan after how bad last season turned out. However, we still went ...

This weekend, I'm off with the Westhill Church of Christ youth group at the annual youth retreat.

Shipwrecked

Image
I may be in trouble. I have to threaten these children already, two weeks in. They wanted to act out the story, but we were in a rush, and Paul wasn't quite so ready, so I had to narrate. I honestly haven't watched because I hate to hear myself. And the "special effects" may make you seasick when you watch. For our song of the week, I don't want to hear myself sing, but we should have practiced a bit more before doing it on video. I'm just proud that they stuck to trying to learn it and wanting to do it for the video. We can always practice it more.
