My Storage Wars Take 2

This morning I broke my 9:00 Saturday rule and was up before 8. I was just awake by then. I guess I had just slept enough. I think I'm finally catching up on some lost sleep or something because I've been getting up before my alarm lately. Strange. Anyway. When I signed in at the last storage unit auction, I got my name on the mailing list to get information about upcoming auctions, evidently. I received a personal invitation to the auction this morning on four units. I still enjoy seeing what Alan and Ton find on Auction Hunters , I'm still looking for Storage Wars Texas , but I don't think I'm going to get into the auction thing myself. A) I'm too tight with my money and B) what am I going to do with the JUNK in the unit if I buy it? More than ever, I'm convinced I'm not going to find a packed unit with trash bags full of stuff with dollar bills scattered throughout. I'm not going to find a gold coin collection in a tackle box, and I'm no...

My first auction hunting adventure

After watching way too much reality TV, my dad and I decided weeks ago we were going to the next storage unit auction in town. I think I told you about driving around last Friday looking for one since he couldn't remember what he saw in the paper. Well, I went to sleep way too late last night, and he woke me up this morning to tell me he was going to get Paige and Peyton and then come by. This I knew, but he had to wake me to tell me this. I told him the auction sign wasn't there any more for whatever reason, and he asked what we should do. I said, "not stay stopped in the middle of the road." I've noticed how indecisive my family members are today. Long story. So then, we went to a place with about 15 or so for sale. Nothing we would think about buying in the ones we saw. All along Dad says, ...

Confessions of a closet hoarder

Back a few weeks ago when I was cleaning out my office for my grand exit, I opened up some file cabinet drawers that hadn't been open in years (I just left the file cabinet with stuff I inherited and used for a few years all alone) and went through some stacks of papers under a table. I recycled stuff I hadn't seen in years. Stuff I kept, just in case I needed it. Now, in an effort to straighten up my home office, I'm going through the drawers to my hutch. I found a newspaper from 2002 that I still can't figure out why I kept it. One from 2003 that I realize why I kept, but trashed now. I found some stickers from back at the time I worked at the Disney Store while in college in 1999-2000. There were some photo negatives from my photography class in 1996. Oh, and all sorts of floppy disks when disks could only hold 1.44 MB with class assignments from 1997-2000. It's been a number of years since I had a computer that would read those. I do have an external zip dri...
