Any other day, attorney Audra Schaeffer might have been flattered by the friendly overtures of Robert Garfield--a real-life movie star. But on the flight from Indianapolis to Hollywood, Audra can think of little else than finding her missing sister. When Audra arrives in the city of glitz, glamour, and starts--and learns her rising-starlet sister has been murdered--all thoughts of a romance fly away. Determined to solve the mystery and find justice for her sister, Audra takes a job with the second Hollywood Victory Caravan. Together with the handsome Robert and other stars, she crisscrosses the southern United States by rail in a campaign to sell war bonds. When other mysterious events unfold, Audra realizes that if she doesn't get her emotions back on track where Robert Garfield is concerned, she could be flirting with danger! Social networking is a great thing. One day, I was on Twitter, and got an @audrajennings. "Thought of you when posting about Cara Putnam's new b...

Vanishing Act by Liz Johnson

Eighteen months ago, Nora James watched as her father was shot in an alley-and then she fl ed. She changed her name, her appearance and her job, hoping to keep her father’s shooter at bay. For months, it worked…but now her luck has run out. A ruthless assassin is on her trail, and soon Nora, now known as Danielle, will be found. But this time, she has FBI agent Nate Andersen by her side-right? The handsome agent would give his life to protect Danielle, but he’s wary of giving his heart…until a deadly confrontation leaves him with both on the line. I'm normally not into romance, but I do love suspense novels. What I love about Liz Johnson's books are that she writes a romance without them being over-the-top-ooey-gooey-give-me-a-break romances. They never seem like they're making a big stretch to be realistic. I wish a handsome FBI agent with a great moral compass would come looking for me. Hmmm... well, the part about one looking for me isn't realistic, but I didn...

So, what have you done?

Since I haven't gone anywhere, you might be wondering what I have done this week. Well, the answer is, "a whole lot of nothin'." Thus far, my most adventurous day was Monday. I talked with Paige on Sunday evening, telling her that if she could go on Monday, I would take her to see Ramona and Beezus as I had promised her that I would. But, the kicker was that Grandma wanted to go to Hobby Lobby to get something she wanted, and if I were to Waxahachie already, I'd rather go on a little further and do both on the same day. I knew she and Peyton wouldn't like that, and Mom probably didn't want to go to the movies. However, as the designated driver, I was making the rules for once. So, we did end up going on up to Cedar Hill so that Mom could get her padding for her headboard she was making. At the Pier 1 next door, I did find the Chinese lantern kit that I wanted for my living room. Then, Mom and I trumped Paige on restaurants and had Chili's. You can o...

I wasn't planning on a part 3, but...

Alas, I have a third entry about the great road trip debate. As I left my parents' house on Tuesday, I assigned them a task of coming up with a list in hopes we could actually stop debating and start planning. Last night, as we sat down to eat, I asked who had done their homework assignment of working on their lists. What that had come up with was New Orleans. Of course, they note that we need a back-up plan since we would be going during hurricane season. There's just something about that idea that I'm not overly excited about. I guess it's because when I think "New Orleans" I think of destruction and drunken craziness though I admit that is not necessarily a fair assessment. I really don't say anything and my thought process is, "now Audra, you can't pray for a hurricane to hit New Orleans so that you can do something else." Dad further prods the conversation by saying, "we've had doing vacations like Chicago and seeing vacat...

The great road trip debate - part 2

Yesterday, I shared with you my parents' desire to go to Boston on vacation. If you didn't catch yesterday's post, scroll down and read it because today picks up where yesterday left off. Sure, parts of California can be as far away as Boston, but I believe the drive really is not as bad. The trip east can be a hard drive with all the cities, etc. you have to go through. I've been Vegas back to Texas, which is a good chunk of the California drive, and it just doesn't seem like as hard of a drive. "Uh, OK. What part of California are we thinking?" I inquire. "Oh, we don't know," my father replies. I get out the atlas to examine things and have a real conversation. The phone rings, and my mom disappears for a little while. "OK, I just have to ask, what part of California do you want to go." "Well, I think you have to do LA." "OK, I'm with you. Here's another question for you. Could you go within 60...

The great road trip debate - part 1

I have the week off and it looks like the furthest I will be venturing away from home will be Cedar Hill, TX, and that was yesterday. I'll go into that more tomorrow. I'll entertain you with another tale for now. I took off this week because A) I needed to take a week at some point and B) there was the thought that we might possibly take the girls somewhere, but that ended up not working out - just bad timing. Unless we took the girls somewhere nearby for a few days, we knew we wouldn't likely go anywhere - Mom is off this week too and Dad is off every week now. Dad decided today we could try to head out of down for a few days. The idea of going to an outside play in Tulsa (that my parents have already been to), or to the Texas play out at Palo Duro Canyon, neither one had a great appeal to me, so that got nixed quickly. Though I did want to go somewhere as I have anticipated my time off for the past month or so, I've resolved myself to the the idea of sticking at h...
