Just keep swimming

This morning I judged a round of 7th grade girls' speech and listened to a couple of my 2nd grade boys do their speech at Lads to Leaders (see my puppet post from yesterday). It would be several hours before the next set of events, so while everyone was taking their lunch breaks, I headed back home.  Because the lines were insanely busy at the hotel, I hadn't had any breakfast. I wanted some chicken and dumplings at Cracker Barrel, so I headed to Arlington to stop and get some. For a Saturday before noon, they had a lot of people there. You would have thought it was Easter lunch (not quite Thanksgiving busy). I didn't want to wait, so I went to the other location that wasn't too far away. Got there, same thing. I ended up eating El Fenix which is really good, just not what I was going for.  From there, I sent clothes shopping. I stopped in another town looking for a certain paint pen color. When I finally made it home (seemed like it was going to take all day...

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Plagues

Today was the day my puppet team has been working towards. Our competition at Lads 2 Leaders at the Gaylord Texan. They were so excited, but nervous. They wanted to practice in the hall. Then, they psyched each other out. They were making me nervous! We ended up 3rd place (out of four) in our age group. (They competed in the sixth grade group since two of them were 6th graders, but we had a 2nd grader and a 3rd grader too.) We didn't know what to expect, so we'll have to add some special effects and make a bigger production next time around. That's on me. The kids did great. If you know these kids, yes, their parts were pretty much written just for them.

I do believe

I do believe this canvas will sell pretty quickly. I thought the same thing though with my "The Cover is not the Book" one too.

It's such a girl problem to need to get your haircut, but just not do it because you didn't like the way the last person cut it and you want to find someone new. Maybe the cut was ok, but you just didn't mesh with the stylist's personality or the atmosphere. I've needed to cut my hair for a while now. It's had dead ends and long and heavy enough to really pull down a ponytail. It's been in a pony tail all the time.  So here's my before: Here's my after that looks darker for lack of light in the room. I can just get it all pulled back for the upcoming heat of the summer. I feel a bit more presentable now.

House hunting day dreaming

Facebook can be a dangerous thing in more ways than one. I'll save my rant on the sharing of fake news memes for another day. Though those get people angry and me annoyed, other posts can be much more costly and bring up other thoughts and opinions. Recently, a friend was posting about the progress on the home she and her husband are building. It's out in a new housing edition where several families from church have built in recent years. That seed of jealousy was planted and a pity party took root. Yeah, I'm never going to be able to afford to build a house, especially like that without a spouse's income contributing to the price tag. Then, the pity party rolled on from there. I don't need a house big enough for each of three kids to have their own rooms and an extra den (though I do need the space for an office {third bedroom} and a craft room {some kind of extra room}). Other than the fact my book hoard just seems to keep growing and growing so I'm ...

Heigh-ho, heigh ho, to work in the studio I go

I had a last minute order come in last week, that I just finished off late last night. The woman who ordered it wanted it for the birth of a grand child that the doctor said would some earlier than originally expected, so she needed it fast. This is the quote she wanted, and since the baby's room was hunting/deer themed, I went on the hunt for paper at the scrapbook store. Most of what they had was card stock, so I had to settle for pages that looked like deer hide. It's the first time I can say with some certainty that the customer was disappointed with the end result. I even used a wallpaper smoother to get the wrinkles out, but that result in a smooth canvas. Sometimes the wrinkles happen in drying. They show up more in the photos than when you are looking at it in person. I also finished off this one I've had papered for a while. If it doesn't sell, I can hang it going up to my office.
