Fall craft sale!

Image
I'm going to share some of our Crafty Dad and Daughter products since we won't have craft shows this fall. (Another reason to hate COVID.) If you are interested in anything you see, I'll ship anywhere in the US for whatever the USPS cost of shipping is. With this pumpkin sign, we have you covered with both Halloween and Thanksgiving! This 2-sided sign gives you twice the bang for the buck! $25 each (plus tax in Texas). If you are interested in one of these, let me know quick! I have the blanks ready, but they aren't lettered yet. Halloween side: 1) Trick or Treat 2) Happy Halloween Thanksgiving side: 1) Give Thanks 2) Happy Thanksgiving 3) Let us come before him with thanksgiving. 4) Gobble 'til you wobble These acorns are already made up. They are super cute in person. They are also $25 each. I was trying to take pictures at night in my entry hall, and the photos are not great. This is a big leaf that can be personalized with a family name or have something like ...

Whataburger for Thanksgiving?

Image
Just in case this post comes across as complaining, let me say up front that it is not. I think it's funny. We sat out this morning, Thanksgiving Day, to head to Cypress for a two-day craft show. We picked this particular event in part as a mini giveaway and part avoiding potential family drama. The plan was to stop at Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving lunch when we got to Conroe, then check into the hotel in time for Dad to watch the Cowboy game.  Do you know me and plans? We are in two different cars so that we have one to run around in without a trailer attached and to also have extra books in case we sell a lot, especially since it's a two-day event. First planned stop: Buc-ees in Madisonville. Let me just say that you haven't seen anything like Buc-ees on Thanksgiving. If you live outside of Texas and don't know what Buc-ees is, it is a very large gas station and convenience store that boasts "The #1 place for #1" aka the cleanes...

Thanksgiving: It’s a heart condition

Thanksgiving: It’s a heart condition By Darla Weaver Excerpt adapted from Gathering of Sisters by Darla Weaver. ©2018 Herald Press, used with permission. Toward the end of the month we turned our attention to Thanksgiving and the meal we were all sharing at Regina’s house after church services in the morning. Nathan would be home from Alaska, the harvest season was over for another year, and Thanksgiving was marked on the calendar. It was time to thank God for family, for freedom, for food and shelter and all the abundant blessings he showered upon us daily, hourly. Food, of course, is the main element of the Thanksgiving meal. In the weeks before Thanksgiving, our conversation centers there quite often, and on such enthralling topics as holiday turkey prices, and whether Butterball brand turkeys are better than any other brand. “I need to copy your recipe for cranberry salad,” one of us will say to Mom. And: “If a recipe asks for heavy cream, is that the same...

The Thanksgiving Goose

Image
This year for Thanksgiving, we fled north. Opposite migration you might say.  It was the only the second time in the memory of my entire life that I didn't have Thanksgiving at my parents' house. Normally, I spend most of Wednesday cooking. There were most definitely positives of being gone for the week. It didn't really feel like Thanksgiving though.  It's never my first choice to spend any time in Branson. As a side note to anything of relevance, the town has taken a swing down except when it comes to shopping. I'm not sure if the tornado of a couple of years ago wiped everything out or everyone took to the same opinion of the town that I've had. So many things were closed. Churches have taken over a number of theaters. Some of the hotels torn down needed to be torn down anyway. So, back to Branson. On the way to some show one weekend, Mom mentioned how Stillwaters had been sending condo deals via email. Mom and Dad are always game to go t...

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving. Mine was very low key, thankfully.

A little fall decorating

Image
I share a lot of pictures of the latest Crafty Dad and Daughter creations, but not necessarily displayed like they were intended to be. This week, Mom did a little staging for us.  This is one of the two sided pumpkins that is paired with a small wreath on the door. We also have a couple of Thanksgiving plaques that can be displayed with other fall decorations.

When your Thanksgiving vacation isn't restful

Image
I sure have been looking forward to this break here at Thanksgiving. Given how late I have been up trying to finish off crafts, I could have used the rest. However, on Wednesday, I cooked most of the day after gluing a few projects and finishing some things that night. Thursday, I wanted to crochet more items for the sell, but didn't get too much done. I did go to Office Depot when they opened at 6 PM and bought a laptop which has been my plan ever since the one I bought 2 years ago on Black Friday died a few months ago. We drove by Walmart right at 6, and there was not a parking place to be found, literally. People were parking in all nearby parking lots. I did not get my Door Buster yarn because nothing is worth the mess of all those people at Walmart. Friday, I tried to crochet all day, but kept getting distracted. This morning, I got up after about 5 hours sleep to set up for a show that did worse than the last one. (I had to sign-up for another one next weeken...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (Even if I am late on getting this post up!) We had a quiet Thanksgiving this year. It was just my parents, my brother and I. Paige and Peyton were with their mom in Wyoming. Most recent years, they've at least eaten with us. It was too quiet. I missed them. Since there was only the four of us and my mom didn't want leftovers for a week, I was told I could make half the dressing as usual, so that meant only one pan of cornbread and that threw me off. I cut up too much onion and celery for one pan even though I cut back some on that. When I mixed the celery in, it was overwhelming, so put in more white bread in proportion. You could tell. The dressing was not as good as usual. It was white bread and celery. I was extremely disappointed since I LOVE dressing. Brian certainly doesn't want it for Christmas and since Mom was the one that didn't want leftovers, I told Dad I would do take two for Christmas Eve and just he and I would e...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
I am too stuffed to say anything more than Happy Thanksgiving. My cooking, with the exception of a squash casserole I tried (epic fail), was too good for anyone's own good. Don't my pecan and buttermilk pies look good? Dad messed up the pumpkin one he made for Mom. He put the wrong kind of milk in it, so without sweetened milk, it was not sweet and the crust didn't cook right. It was raw dough that sat out for 20 hours because the rest of the pie looked done. Thankfully only mom tried it before we dumped it all out. At least his coconut one turned out with good looking meringue that didn't weep.
