Why can't anyone spell?

I'm concerned with education in this country. And I'm glad that I no longer teach because spelling among the population today frustrates me. I am really not sure if it is all "sight words" or the teaching of phonics that is the problem. Obviously, if it weren't for spell check, we would come off as a completely ignorant people. This really does concern me. There's nothing I can actually do about it. I guess spelling is about as useful as trigonometry these days. Anyway, with that, I'll give you Paige's update of yesterday. My mom said she was laughing so hard she couldn't read it all at first. (And I won't explain that we did lose an hour of sleep, but sprang forward instead of falling backwards.) Dear Relitives,                      Since today we fell backwards and lost an hour of  sleep Dad and Julie were all worn out from the sencond day of the best stay at...

Someone is a Mean Girl

There are times I think Paige has some of my traits. Her emails are as entertaining as I hope my blog is at times. However, I hope the mean streak is not like me.this is her email from yesterday. I cannot wait until I get her update from today. I already know of her daily target. She has admitted that she will pick a person every day. Dear Ya ll,                      Today the second day of the best stay at home spring break ever my family and I had to get up early 7 o'clock that's early compared to Audra who probably sleep in until 12:00! So we got up and Mimi brought us some donuts from the Donut Palace knowing my pickiness and my difficult siblings it was a lot harder that it should have been. My piggies got lots of protein because they got 2 whole raw eggs shell and all they were loving it. Then we were off to Maddy's All-Star Game in Fairfield, Texas where my Granna liv...

I should have my head examined

I know the title of the post doesn't surprise anyone and most of you would attest to that fact. I was seriously having this thought as I was out and about today. The past few weeks, I've spent more than the normal amount of time within the confines of my home. Once I was told my job would not exist at the end of February, there was no point in working all the extra hours I had been. I've spent more weekends doing nothing than normal. More evenings just hanging out on my beloved purple living room furniture. This week, I started working from home. One or two days, I didn't even leave the house. Yesterday, I got out at lunch and went to Dollar General for the heck of it. I don't go to Dollar General for the heck of it. Because the main road to get to/from my parents house is closed down for construction, I opt not to go over there because it's a pain to get there.  I give all this background to say, I'm to the point that it doesn't take much to get...

Spring Break in Texas

Goodness knows that I've not experienced Spring Break for a number of years myself. My spring breaks also often resembled some of my vacations from past years. And I'm talking about the ones where I stayed home. I didn't have to exterminate (my house or my head) on Spring Break, but I had other things that weren't pleasant. That's really not the point. The point is that you can tell it is Spring Break in Texas by the weather. Today at whatever time the kids got out of school, marked the beginning. It was rainy and in the 40s. The last cold snap, front, or whatever you choose to call it always hits at Spring Break. It may have been 80 a week ago, but sure enough, it always happens. I seriously don't know how many times I have put up the blankets I put on top of my bed and had to turn around two days later and get them back out. Or how many times I have had to go from A/C to heater at my house lately. The good news for all the kids out there is that after ...

Confessions of a closet hoarder

Back a few weeks ago when I was cleaning out my office for my grand exit, I opened up some file cabinet drawers that hadn't been open in years (I just left the file cabinet with stuff I inherited and used for a few years all alone) and went through some stacks of papers under a table. I recycled stuff I hadn't seen in years. Stuff I kept, just in case I needed it. Now, in an effort to straighten up my home office, I'm going through the drawers to my hutch. I found a newspaper from 2002 that I still can't figure out why I kept it. One from 2003 that I realize why I kept, but trashed now. I found some stickers from back at the time I worked at the Disney Store while in college in 1999-2000. There were some photo negatives from my photography class in 1996. Oh, and all sorts of floppy disks when disks could only hold 1.44 MB with class assignments from 1997-2000. It's been a number of years since I had a computer that would read those. I do have an external zip dri...

Making some progress

Image
It seems like almost nightly that my OCD kicks in and I have to take out a row and a half to fix an extra or missing or wrong stitch, and I pull it out and redo. Or, I have a giant not in my yarn and I spend half the night messing with it.  However, here's updates from the past week: Day 9: I started a new pattern that I really like - Day 10: Day 11: Day 12: Like this mass of yarn that I pulled out... Day 13: Day 14: Day 15: This was the wad of yarn I really struggled with. It's getting bigger, but I'm not sure how close we are to giveaway time.
